why all the spacers were deleted from 1971.
if you really want to fit one make it a long one that uses both holes and gives a good base for the rubber.

The rubber does just overhang a little one of the freeze plugs, by a small amount.
Yes, I make and fit a 5 mm plate here that goes under both bolts. Then if the Steady Bolt should break, there's a chance it won't be a complete trauma to remove it.
This bolt should only ever be a Grade 5 Tensile and so higher so that it has some flexibility. High Grades don't like bending and they crack & break.

I was concerned as the silicone bush sits against the block. If it wont perish then ill just leave it?

adding a spacer will not change the conditions for the bush. it will still get just as hot.
