I'm refurbishing a late model SPi/MPi aluminium dash and need advice regarding the chrome trim ring that fits around the glovebox opening.

When I received the dash the trim was not particularly well attached and appears to have been re-glued at some point in the past, I've now removed the trim and cleaned everything up to be refitted securely. However, on the rear of the trim there are large "tabs" that I was expecting to locate in corresponding slots in the rebate, however there doesn't appear to be any such slots, causing the trim to sit flush with the dash but not fully in the rebate.

Do only the tabs fit into the rebate? If so, where there are no tabs this leaves roughly a 3mm gap between the trim and the dash, visible when the glove box is open (obviously the depth of the tab). Should there be an additional trim to fill this gap?

I've taken photos showing one of the tabs, the trim fitted, and the gap that exists between the trim and the bottom of the rebate:

Can anyone help with any information about the gap?

That's brilliant Steve, thanks :)

The trim on yours appears to be fully seated into the rebate so I can only assume that there must be glue filling the slots where the tabs fit ... and I'm not seeing it. Your last photo with the hinges showing is the most telling because if I refit the trim as it was previously (badly refitted) the hinges will be set back deeper than the trim which isn't correct.

Stu.
