A couple of days ago I had to change the points and condenser due to a misfire.  I have now fitted the new points and condenser on to the distributor and it has helped alot.

However I had set the contact points to 015" but they keep closing when their not meant to so I have to adjust them again?

Any ideas on how to fix this?

See if you can ascertain if they're slipping under the screw, not unusual to find someone's botched it with a screw of the wrong thread form. It might be the plastic heal it wearing against the shaft or going soft through overheating. It could even be wear and irregularities in the dizzy itself: take note of which cylinder the rotor arm is set to fire.

Make sure you buy your points, rotor arms, etc from the 'Distributor Doctor' link below for quality items......most of the others available on the market are rubbish poor quality imported copies.....even if sold in what might look like the OEM packaging:-

Fibre heel points

"Fed up with poor quality reproduction points that don’t fit, last or align properly?

I was, and as a result have remanufactured old style, top quality points with the original Fibre heels, right diameter Tungsten contacts, correct spring tension and perfect alignment.

As they were in the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s, 60's and 70's."

Lucas distributor condensers

"We have comprehensive stocks of all commonly required Lucas distributor condensers.

The quality of the commonly available condensers is very poor, in terms of both the physical fit & the performance /longevity. We have recently dismantled & examined 4 examples of the orange wired versions, from 4 different factories all around the globe. All of which are readily available & prevalent in the UK. The results confirmed our suspicions & why we are having so many phone calls from owners who've fallen victim to them. Original specification Lucas condensers & ours have 3 metres of winding inside, the orange ones have between 1 metre & 1.5 metres. The internal bonding & construction also left a lot to be desired."

FIT OUR YELLOW WIRED CONDENSERS:-

Top quality RED ROTOR ARMS for Lucas distributors

"I decided to make them in RED to differentiate them from the inferior black ones commonly available, and launched two sizes in the UK as a top quality, totally reliable solution in 2008.

Like most good ideas, we’ve suffered from low grade pirated copies being sold very cheaply, so BEWARE CHEAP COPIES OF MY RED ROTOR ARMS.
I'VE EVEN SEEN THEM POPPING UP IN GREEN LUCAS BOXES RECENTLY.
As of late Spring 2012 all my genuine red rotors will bear the DD marking.

We will gladly advise customers of Bona Fide sources to eradicate this problem quickly and positively. We now have 6 part numbers available in the RED ROTOR ARMS range, which cover virtually every Lucas distributor from the mid 1930’s onwards."

Are the points seated correctly on the base plate, there should be a dimple or pin that locate them.
