My project nearly finished, but i have this issue with the smell of fuel, not very strong, but evident. I have an spi tank fitted, ive taken tank out twice to check for leaks, ive taken off the vent valve and check by blowing through it while its under water, i have new hoses and clips on everything. I even took the fuel pump back out and resealed. The vent pipe finishes under car, is possible for smell to rise into car while in garage?. Its driving me mad, plus i dont want to turn into a fireball!.

Is it definitely from the boot area?

Try leaving the garage doors, car boot, doors and bonnet open for a few hours to vent the whole car

Might just be lingering...I mean the smell not me...!!

I had a hairline crack in my MPi tank, by the shock tower. Took me ages to find out the source of my petrol smell, was driving me crazy. Wasnt visible until checked closely when removed.

Thanks for all contributions, will double check all front end hoses although are pretty new, its not a really strong smell just a lingering smell. Running out of ideals really.

One sure way of getting rid of the petrol effluvium is to convert it to LPG.

Mine had a leak on the seam right at the bottom. Only the slightest of damp showing but it stunk the car out.

There is no damp spots at all, its a very subtle although obvious smell especially when left for a few days. The usual suspect is the vent pipe/valve but ive already taken it off and checked in a bowl of water, no leaks. Now perplexed!.

Gonna fill the tank seam with epoxy chemical metal, just to be sure.

Sorry to hear you having so much trouble finding the leak. When I first got my mini, the tank breather pipe was split and the fumes got pulled into the boot-subsequently the cabin. Took me a while to find it but I understand your pain... Hope you find the issue soon!

I pulled the venting parts off and plugged it up to help find where mine was coming from.
