the first question has to be is it being driven by the box?
disconnect from the speedo and see if it is turning when driven.

If the Cable end is too long going in to the Speedo, it can jam it from moving.

Hi guys. Got a new problem with the old boy... last year I had gearbox problems and one of the symptoms was a faulty speedo reading... long story short, the gearbox problem got sorted but the speedo cable was goosed. Ordered a new cable recently and fitted it and it still doesn't tell me how fast I'm going. The only difference in the cables was the lenght and gearbox end is more oval than square on the new one.
Any suggestions or ideas on how to get my speedo working?? Don't want the local authorities telling me my average speed Check...
Thanks in advance
If your speedo cable is spinning when it is connected to the gearbox then surely the fault must be in the fact that it is either not connected to your actual speedo correctly.....or the fitment is wrong or your actual speedo is no good, try turning the fitment in the actual speedo itself with a suitable shaft/screwdriver you should be able to turn it enough to see if the speedo needle is turning freely.
your rev counter doesnt really have much to do with the volyage stabiliser as that just drops the voltage from 12v to 10 and is mainly cincerned with your guages connected to it coolant i think? they are prone to wear and age as they depend on an arm opening and closing so your best bet is to buy a solid chip aftermarket replacement type, cheap enough easily fitted solid state reliable and it is covered on this forum a couple of times if you look it up. hopes this helps as i had similar problems with my coolant guage and fittted a similar replacement to solve the problem. hope this helps, even if it spelt badly.

If you are having a fitment problem with your speedo cable, you might want to try the 90 degree angle drive, P/N 433-475 from Moss Motors. It allows the cable to be routed along, parallel to the firewall/bulkhead, eliminating the bend as it comes in straight from the direction of the carb(s). You will have to do a small amount of 'modification' with a rat tail file to ease interference with the stiffener around the speedo opening. I installed one on my car with no problems, can't remember the last time that I replaced a speedo cable.
