Looks like it was designed by a six year old.

They are an acquired taste ...just like the Mini Marcos, seemed popular back in the day.
Like the line 'THIS CAR IS MOT AND TAX FREE FROM JUNE' ....thought that would mean the April of the following year, or am I misunderstanding the historic rules?

I'm trying to understand the historic rules as my vehicle's a similar age. My interpretation is that it will be tax exempt from April 2020 as it is a 1979 model. I'm more confused about MOT exemption and whether that happens at exactly forty years or do you have to declare it as a historic vehicle first which only seems possible at tax renewal.
I used to like the McCoy when I was ten - at least it's something different!

So i'm not the only one struggling with the MOT/Tax exemption rules.
I think it works like this....
Historic Vehicle are Tax exempt if manufactured OR registered 40 years ago (that includes kit cars that were built & registered in accordance with the old points system criteria).
For VHI (Vehicle of Historic Interest) MOT exemption : any substantial changes within the last 30 years means it is not MOT exempt (ie things like being made into a kit car).
There are various sub-clauses/exemptions etc in the main document (& all the other documents that deal with the subject!)

I find the goverment guidelines quite confusing when it should be very simple.
My vehicle was manufactured in March '79, registered in June '79. It's MOT expires in the middle of September and it needs taxing at the end of September.
I can apply for MOT exemption at the point of relicencing which means it has to sit for two weeks waiting with no MOT or I have to MOT it for two weeks (?!) when at this point it is 40 and one half years old anyway!
Or does it have to be registered as a Vehicle of Historic Interest when relicencing before I can declare it MOT exempt which doesn't happen until after April 2020 when the vehicle will be over forty one years old?!
I think I'll be MOTing it anyway to be on the safe side unless I can find better clarification on what the rules are what with ANPR cameras which show no mercy.
I should think the thirty year ruling applies to kit cars as you say Itsaminithing. So if for instance the McCoy's based on a '70s Mini (more than forty years old) and built in the '80s it should be tax exempt as the reshelling was carried out over thirty years ago. Then again there probably are other rules for kit cars to make it more complicated like whether it has the original Mini registration or was re-registered on a Q plate when built and therefore not officially forty years old (the above vehicle is on a T suffix so should be exempt)...and breathe...

I think I’m correct in thinking because it’s a kit car it will always need a mot and tax as it can’t be classed as historic please feel free to correct me if I’m wrong
On my old Marcos I had historic tax - but it was correctly registered as a Marcos - I assume the MOT would just be the tick box.
I'm also confused if it's a Q reg and I suspect there are not that many 'Q' reg's out there that are old enough to the exempt?

I'm imagine there will be a fair few competition cars that were put on Q plates to avoid emissions being a consideration with tuning - they'll also have a special interest for historic vehicle officiandos.
DVLA did have a bit of a push/amnesty some years back to get people to register their kits as the model of kit and not just leave it as the donor. I guess there could still be a few lurking in barns that were and so should still be legit from before SVA, Q plates etc.
