Hello everyone, I’ve got a 998 with a stage one kit fitted, which it started to run rough struggle to start and misfire while driving, so I’ve put new plugs ht leads coil dis cap and internals on the dizzy starts up good but still not running right, I’ve also notice that one spark plug is white and the rest are black, any advice to help me out? I think that the carb maybe need changing as it just over fuels all the time as you can smell it, I can send pictures and videos on Instagram jakey_mk_1 would be good to also have some minis on my new feed!

Did you install the stage one kit and now have issues?

There are a lot of variables.

what needle have you fitted?

What is the exhaust emission levels on the last MOT(was it checked after the stage one kit install)?

Is there oil in the carb dashpot?

Might have a damaged or leaking manifold gasket - you did install a Stage 1 exhaust and intake manifold?

i brought the kit form mini spares, so had all new gaskets with inlet and exhaust, I've brought a compression tester so i can rule that out, I've had a play with the feeling trying to sort it, if i wind the adjuster under the carb all the way so not as fuel is running though it still is running to lean as you can smell the fuel in the exhaust and see it by the carbon build up on the spark plugs. I'm also trying to find out which carb is on it now, as one of the last owners said he put a cam in it and was running a HIF 44 carb, but its changed hands since him and all the good bits gone, i don't think they would have taken out the cam which was fitted.

afternoon guys I've done a compression test this afternoon and it come back around 105psi which after looking around thats low, but i didn't take all four plugs out and have the engine hot like others. I've put the old needle back in and its still the same.

With one spark plug a different colour, I think you'll have to take the head off and check out the valves and head gasket.

Especially as you've changed the ignition components.
