I don't think for one minute that this conversion will be easy or happen quickly, the fact that I can't weld and have limited garage facilites doesn't help matters either.

This is the Metro subframe that I hope to fit a 2.0L XE engine to, although I also have a C16SE engine that is a good deal lighter and smaller that I may end up putting in, the 2.0 one might just work out too big.

Here's the F13 in the subframe, I think I have an awful long way to go.

Best of luck.. lets just hope it doesn't gather to much dust on the garage floor.

Thanks Apollo, I hope so to, as the subframe is off the car I can't for the life of me get the nut undone on the end of the driveshaft, that's always the first job I do when working on the front suspension. A local garage should help me out with their air impact-gun, I just need to get the hubs off and then wheel-barrow them to the garage.

I'm going to ditch the anti-roll bar and put mini bottom arms and tie bars on for adjustability and I'm going for a coil-over damper similar to the MGF TC, I'm going to try and use the original top-arm, whilst a friend who is doing the same conversion using a C16SE is going to try it with the TC top arms.

Not a lot done today, you'll get used to those words unless you get bored althogether.

best way to loosen a stuck nut is a breaker bar and a scaffolding tube :ermm:

Im guessing your Plastic car is mini based, otherwise you would already have a K series in it? So why not use a mini front subframe? Or are you after the wider track width?? :ermm:

I'd need someone heavy to stand on the subframe with the scaffold tube technique.

I have three Midas, one is Metro based, the other two mini based, I also have an Allspeed frame for the mini based one, but the car sat in the garage with no wheels is the metro one, I can do a bit at the mini one when the sun shines and the metro one when it's raining.

Posting on here is to try and put some pressure on me to get this done.

These are the cars, the white one is to remain A-series, I think

What does Mini based mean? I don't understand how these Midas cars are anything to do with Mini's... ;D

All kit cars need a donor vehicle to supply the running gear, engine suspension etc. the Midas uses most of the mechanical bits off a mini, hence the term mini-based.

I like them, the body never goes rusty! all the minis I've ever had have always gone rusty, even brand new ones.

The Midas is a development of the mini marcos, seen below.

As I said a slow and steady conversion.

Cut some chunks out of the Metro subframe today, hope to see if an engine will fit in the gap tomorrow if I'm feeling strong.... no engine lift at the moment... hope to buy one real soon.
