I am going to be getting a brake pipe flaring tool and making my own brake pipes for my mini.

What type thread i.e. metric or imperial and what size unions and end pieces do i need? I have seen them on ebay but you can get different sized ones.

Also is there different bore sizes of copper brake pipe? or will any roll of cooper pipe do.

Thanks for looking

Daniel

the mini uses 3/16 pipe so im assuming the unions are imperial too apart from some master cylingers which have a metric fitting!! u can keep the original unions from ur car tho and just renew the pipe!!

i was going to buy a flaring tool like this one ... ebay

has anyone used one like this before? are they easy to use/worth the money or would i be best spending a little more on a brand such as draper/sealey?

Thanks for the response

I have used em before and you obviously get what you pay for. But they work OK in my experience.

EDIT: THIS is the one I used to have, it was very good. But they all do the same thing really.

When i order the parts do just ask for imperial pipe ends? or is there a particular size i need to fit the 3/16 pipe?

Thanks

Something I did not see mentioned yet.
The flares for brake lines need to be double flares not single.
One of the links showed a double flare kit so just make sure that's what you use. It will have the small disc with a pin that is inserted into the pipe to form the initial flare.

I work in halfords so i can get discount on parts i get. i managed to order som in this morning through from a local supplier.

14p each for the pipe ends and £5.35 for 25ft of copper pipe plus my discount so i think i got them quite cheap.

Thanks for all the responses.

to make it even better i phoned the same local supplier for a pipe flaring tool which they had in stock for £13 odd, its sealey onewhich in the sealey catalogue is priced at £22.99.

Quite a succesfull day i think.
