Just nipped home to pick up mini on my lunch break and it started up, pulled it out garage, turned off. locked the house etc and now it wont start!

Loud click from the solenoid is there, and battery earth strap feels warm.

On the 5/6th try, i noticed my voltmeter is showing under 12v -will this cause the starter to not turn??

I only had 15 mins to try before having to return to work!

First time the min has let me down!

tried rocking the car in gear.

Plan is to get home and jump or bump start and see if the alternator is charging the battery etc.

Any other pointers to help me get it fixed so i can use int this great weekend weather!

well - you need 3 fundamental items for an engine to run - fuel - air and a spark - provided it is turning over

You said it is clicking, is the engine turning ?, if so look at any of the 3 above

If it's clicking only - Starter motor ?

Sorry - no engine isnt turning, turn the key and there is just a solid click, like a very loud relay which i beleive is the solenoid? Am i correct in thinking that 11.8v is not enough juice?

Your battery is weak, but it could just be the starter is jammed. Try turning the square protruding end on the starter motor before trying again.

Sorted it, must have been a poor earth or connection on the solenoid somewhere.

Took everyting off, electrical cleaner on all contacts etc and it fired up

Thank you
