The "blue points" have a little fork as you state. These should sit on the baseplate and the fork sits in between a raised pin (lower left)
This is the activation from the vacuum advance unit.

You normally expect the points with the blue heel to have the fork but there is probably nothing to stop points being made without a fork that are blue in colour.
Is there no pin for the fork (if there was one) to engage with on the baseplate then?
Where did you purchase the unit from?

I purchased the distributor from an offer on ebay. I'm reasonably sure its a NOS original Lucas product, a 59D4 but without the vacuum advance unit and no pin on either the upper or lower side of the baseplate for the advance mechanism. I've been told that the 'blue' points were more robust, having a fair amount of tungsten on the points and a stronger spring. If true, I'd like to find a spare set. The 'blue' points that came with the distr are identical to the standard 45D points (red).

Beware Intermotor points in a59d distributer. They don't have the slider and the engine will not run correct unless you fit the Lucas points with the slider.

The long item number from eBay is 254062439340. Hopefully that helps. Another question is what is the power source? The only wire to/from the distributor is a black one that runs from the condenser to the coil. I’m used to using electronic ignition similar to Pertronix system that has red (+) and black (-) wires to the coil.

There is no fork on the points. These are set GCS124
These are a late set of points. I am not sure if the Lucas 41766 distributor is correct.
Got to be someone with a bit more knowledge on these. I can't find this Lucas number corresponding with Mini
I have never used these points, I don't even stock them.. think they are for Land Rovers

The data sheet that I found shows this distr to be used on 1981> Australian mokes. Thanks for the reply.
