Nissan’S Version Of The A-Series

Hi all, has anyone used these derivative of engine in a Mini before? How similar are they? Thanks in advance.

similar in name only.  there is loads of info on Wiki. they very soon went to a 5 bearing crank so that's a big change.

In the late 60's I was corresponding with a Malaysian enthusiast about Mini bits, who mentioned the Nisan connection about building the BMC A series under license.

 

His English was rather patchy, but I got quite excited to find out about the block developments and an 8 port head

 

Unfortunately, he never answered the actual questions that I asked, which were if the modified Nissan block would fit on a Mini gearbox, and if a Mini crank would fit in the block.

 

In the early 70's I was too busy trying to stay solvent to look round scrap yards, but as a Nissan engined Mini never crossed my path, I assumed that the modifications were too extensive for any compatibility to remain.
