I'm building an aluminium undertray to prevent all the muck and bullets being collected by my rear valance and rotting out my new boot floor. 

I'd really like to remove these two angle brackets, but at the back of my mind I seem to think they are important for some reason and will only realise what they are, after I have chopped them off!

Any ideas?

I've seen them on subframes but I don't know why they're there.  Maybe something to do with overseas models?

thinking about it I may have seen a subframe with one fitted. but not 2.

I think they are for a jig fixture in production.

They do nothing other than get hung up on stuff. I cut them off.

It's to hang a twin exhaust system.

i was oncew told they where for holding it while spraying or powder coating ???????

My '72 has one on the drivers side only. It's for bolting the battery cable to.
I removed it from the original mowog subframe when I replaced it in 1987 and welded it to the pattern replacement. Don't think the original frame had one on the passenger side.

Thanks everyone for your input. Whatever they are they don't seem to do much so I think I can safely whip out the cutting disc.

Thats what I've done with mine.

Don't make it a flat tray;  bring the sides up, like a U because I was supprised at how much dirt gets thrown through the frame, past the trumpets.

 

I also put louvers across the back of my Mk2 tray to give the stuff that gets in, a chance to get out.

Interesting what Deadsquare says above, are the sides brought up between the trumpets and the dampers?

 

Also, isolate the two metals when fixing the undertray to avoid potential galvanic corrosion of the aluminium.

No. 

 

I thought about making additions to do that, either side of the first flat tray, but after several cardboard patterns, I realised that it would be a welding job, so Mk2 fitted inside the subframe.
