hi got a 1998 cooper , radiator fan keeps kicking in , temp not really going up, any ideas.its had samo hoses added by previous owner .
One thing , expansion tank lid is crap , screws up then it will slacken on the thread , is this common ?

It will start with an intermittent fault, as the connection breaks down, causing the fan to come on for no reason, a bump in road or moving by hand can make the connection again.Also, https://minispares.c.../YMQ105690.aspx

I assume its the coolant temp sender, but it should be there, someones been playing.....
It should be in the thermostat housing

The previous owner added an additional water temperature sensor ,but the question is what for?
Two choices are to operate a temperature gauge or control a cooling fan both of which are controlled by the ECU originally.
Looking at the direction the wiring is going I would think they may have altered the wiring to the fan or would there be a second fan fitted to the rad?
