Try a new cap, you might need a new bottle too. I'd say to get the car on a code reader too to check sensors

You sure it’s not just doing what it’s meant to? Older minis fans run all the time and it is quite warm at the moment.

Do you have an extra water temp gauge?

Chances are it’s the cable to the sensor, seeing as you have no other issues

If the cap isn't holding pressure, the water could boil off. Any water loss?

But these are for fans continuously running

It will start with an intermittent fault, as the connection breaks down, causing the fan to come on for no reason, a bump in road or moving by hand can make the connection again.
Eventually it will break the circuit completely and the fan will be on permanently.
It’s very coming for it to be intermittent, in fact I would say it happens close to 100% of the time

It should be in the thermostat housing

The previous owner added an additional water temperature sensor ,but the question is what for?

Two choices are to operate a temperature gauge or control a cooling fan both of which are controlled by the ECU originally.

Looking at the direction the wiring is going I would think they may have altered the wiring to the fan or would there be a second fan fitted to the rad?
