So as i work through some of the little bothers with my mini the shifter has its turn. Its always been messy and i know it will never be great but i do want to freshen it up.
What are the items i want to change out? The rubber spools seem ok but soft so those will be replaced. Anything else i should do while i am there?

Firstly, i would check the roll pins and make sure that  they are both ok. Then as above, look at the rod bushes and lastly and more than likely, the rod eye will be worn where the gear lever sits. This is the part-

Keep the old rubber mounts just in case as new rubber parts don't always last long.

This is what I did to mine: http://www.theminifo...leak-selector/  Although mostly addressing the selector leaks you can see the DU bush that was replaced at the bottom of the gear lever itself.  Do the other two DU bushes and the mounting rubbers and she'll be as good as new :-)

Thanks guys.  Looks like i will have to drop the selector assembly our which is something i have not done before. Hopefully its not too difficult to do in the drive.

Does anyone make the tool to knock out the bushings in the housing?  All i see is homemade ones done on a lathe.

No idea. Never been under the car. No leaks so no reason.

Well to do the above work you will have to get underneath the car at the end of the day.
