My front tyres have worn unevenly.

The outside edge on both the front tyres have worn nearly to the legal limit, where the edge closest to the engine has worn hardly at all.

Why has this happened?

The Mrs said it was because I drive the mini around like a boy racer.

I tell her the car is supposed to be driven with a smile. One of my favourite things is to take a tight corner at 30-40mph with out slowing down.

Do I need wheel alignment? Has this caused the wear?

The Mrs is most probably correct but it's hard not to isn't it!

Incorrect toe setting can exacerbate the problem but it's going to happen anyway to some extent.  Increasing negative camber on the front by lowering and/or fitting negative camber bottom arms will help.

Alignment maybe needed or worn ball joints, cones, wheel bearings, knuckle joints, and bushings. Check for wear first, grab the tire at 9 and 3 and try and move it then try it at 11 and 4 any movement then you're doing some front end work.

Particularly hilarious when someone in a modern car tries to follow at the same speed!

I do the same, but the odd thing is my front tyres are like new with zero/even wear across both fronts. But the rears are wearing only on the outer edges, with the n/s rear wearing slightly more than the o/s.
