Hi everyone, just wondering what the best way would be to ensure as little swarf remains in the gearbox after installing a helicoil with the engine in situ. I don't really have the opportunity to take the engine out yet and the repair to the sump thread is needed asap.

Cheers.

Grease the drill bit and tap before use so the bits will stick to it, also you can dump a bit of deseil/petrol/parafin through to wash through the last bit. As its ally any odd little bit will be pretty soft so wont cause an issue

As above. I repaired a mate's gearbox and ran some oil through after, seemed to get a load out.  Boroscoped after and couldn't find any.

Is the helicoil being used on the sump plug thread??

When I did mine I flushed it out with about 1l of thin 0w30 oil I had laying about.
Also I had a magnetic stick thing I shoved in the sump hole and prodded about which picked up some extra bits

I would get the vacuum cleaner out and suck it out.
