'93 SPI, 12" wheels, LHD

 

Tyres had been wearing evenly, but the inside of the front-left has developed a lot of wear in a short time.  Basically the tyre is dead.

 

Front-right is fine, no sign of wear or feathering, so not likely to be normal tracking alignment  No obvious ride height difference. On checking, there is some play in the top ball joint (not a lot), maybe also in the bottom, so this is the prime suspect.

 

But anything else that could cause this that I need to check?

Check for play in wheelbearin, ball joints etc. Try greasing then repeat the check.

I'd also look at camber, castor or toe (tracking) settings

Small update.  On talking off both tyres for a close look, the front right is displaying some inside wear, but nowhere near as much as the left.  But this brings the toe-in/out (tracking) back into consideration.

 

Thinking out-loud, open to correction!:

No horizontal motion, or in-out so bearing or hub unlikely. 

Not had any new components recently and all are standard (not performance parts), no bumps or shocks so I think the caster angle should be fine.

Camber could be affected by any weakness in the cones etc., but other than a tyre/suspension place, any way to perform a home check?

Camber is also affected by a bent tie rod, check they're straight and the bushes are good
