All good advice. What sort of filter are you running? I ditched my K&N as it was noisy.

I’m running a k&n in a standard mpi air box with an s works induction nozzle. Quiet and works well.

I've put a layer of thet felt type insulation then 10mm closed cell self adhesive foam on the entire front bulkhead inside the cabin including behind the dash, with carpet on top of that and vinyl between the top and bottom rail On the n/s there is a hole under under the lower shelf to accommodate the LHD pedal mechanism I filled that with a bit of fibreglass and either on side of the pedal mechanism. In the engine compartment I covered the whole bulkhead with 10mm closed cell heat resistant self adhesive foam and on the top half of the bulkhead I put the vinyl sound reduction kit on top of the foam the noise was significantly reduced to an acceptable level for a mini.

would be great if you can share some pictures. Im looking for ways to quieten my mini for the motorway as well.

I have a twin box RC40 and the original airbox for my HS4. Once you hit cruising speeds (60mph onwards), the engine drone really starts to drown out the radio. Would make the custom boot subwoofer box im building a complete waste of effort if I can't reduce the sound somehow.

What ive done is to apply silent coat (similar to dynamat) to the entire floor pan, plus a little on the firewall (inside). The floor is also covered with 10mm closed cell foam.

Next im going to try some suggestions here including adding silent coat to the bonnet, doors & boot, plus closed cell foam to the firewall (dashboard side).

how effective is applying dynamat to the wheel wells? Should it be applied on the inside or the outside?

likewise. i ditched my K&N pod and went back to the airbox. Decided I'd change the paper filter every year or 5000 miles. They're cheap anyway.

the k&N pods made my ears bleed when i drove on the motorway. Sounds lovely when cruising at 40mph though. a shame.

Another vote for earplugs.....I do a lot of highway runs in my car - 400 miles is not unusual one way - and ear plugs are what keep me sane.

Probably best to keep the radio turned low and not drive if you've got any hearing loss ....
