I don't really like the idea of my heater pipes passing vertically through the bulkhead blanking plate (potential for fluids to run down them) and wondered if anyone has made a custom plate - ideally with 1/2" stubs above and 5/8" stubs below to remove the need for reducers elsewhere in the lines?

As above, have used them and they are good. They do all sorts of sizes and you can get ones with wider spacing.

I used a couple of AN bulkhead and barb fittings to go through the blanking plate:

And on the inside...

Yes, those look good - I could remove the link and bolt the stubs direct to my blanking plate. Thanks, great suggestion.

The individual stubs have a hexagonal section where they sit in the link to stop the spinning as you tighten them so this may cause a slight issue when you do as you say and they will sit a little proud of the bulkhead.

I might start with a blank plate and form my own hex holes.

I have a thermostat head steady that goes over the blanking plate and the flanges would be sitting in (and virtually flush with?) the heater pipe holes in that.
