Verto Clutch Slave Cylinder Not Aligning Properly?

Best Answer Macming , 18 July 2019 - 06:38 PM

You look to be missing the distance piece ADU7036. It goes on the bolt between the caseing and the nose of the cyl. mounting plate. this gives the correct angle of the plate to lever and also stops the plate reacting downwards as pressure is applied.

Good afternoon all!

I've tried desperately to look for someone else having this issue on this forum but as of yet i haven't found anyone :(

I brought a 1989 Austin mini around 3 years ago as a first proper car project having no idea what i was doing and after stripping everything down (more to look at everything and see how it works than to fix anything) however i'm now trying to fit a new slave cylinder and the angle looks way off. Can someone more experienced have a look at the pictures and confirm if i have missed something or is there something else that needs amending?

Below is the arm as far up as it will go:

Below is the arm as low as it can go:

Attached File  verto arm down.jpg   47.62K   7 downloads

and finally this is if the pin is pushed in, and you can see it looks like the whole slave cylinder is at the wrong angle:

Is this just me? are they all like that? please someone put me out of my mystery. With this and the ball joints i'm ready to pack it all in and burn the lot! (Obviously joking. Simon the mini is not going anywhere)

I already appreciate your help!

Is it just me or is the spring washer underneath the mounting plate? It's meant to be
bolt head
Spring washer
Mounting bracket
Spacer

You should also have washers on top of the mounting bracket, so,

Bolt head
Washer
Plate

It might just be the photo but the small fixing bolt that goes into the clutch cover has been fitted at an angle rather than perpendicular to the face it's in. also you need a spacer tube to 1. get the correct angle and 2. make the mounting bracket bend down when pushing the clutch in.

As per the other suggestions you are missing the small distance piece (tube) that goes under the mounting plate between that and the clutch cover (wok) on the 1/4" UNF (7/16 AF) which should push the plate and cylinder up a bit and align the holes -

Someone else may mention that your clutch throw out stop nuts look like they may need adjusting (Mr Haynes is your friend!)

Plenty of advice/methods to be had on here:

My Mini is missing this spacer piece as well as the screw! Can anyone tell me how long the spacer is (ADU7036), it's just a bit of tube, so I can easily make one, but how long?

You can use the metal tube from the stabiliser bushes. See Minispares pages fir if it is top or bottom bushes.
