Dreaded Mot Emissions.

I have a 2000 MPI with the 85BHP Cooper conversion by Mini Sport. I had the conversion done before I needed an MOT so I don’t know what it was like when standard but since the conversion, emissions have been an issue at MOT time. The car was run with an emissions reducer in the fuel system and given a good run for 20 miles to get the CAT hot and was then given an emissions test where it failed dramatically. It was ok at fast idle but at idle the CO2 was 1.25 rather than the allowed 0.3 and the Lambda was 1.1. I was told there is slight weeping before the CAT on so that would account for the lambda but what is the likely cause of such high CO2 at idle and how do I get it down. A new CAT was suggested but surely that wouldn’t account for such a high reading?
Any ideas?

Just to clarify, the MOT tests CO ( carbon monoxide ) not CO2 ( carbon dioxide ).
MPIs can be tricky to pass the test, if the conversion was completed recently I’d be taking it back to minisport.

Just to clarify, the MOT tests CO ( carbon monoxide ) not CO2 ( carbon dioxide ).
MPIs can be tricky to pass the test, if the conversion was completed recently I’d be taking it back to minisport.
Conversion was completed 2 years ago. Unfortunately MiniSport is about a 4 hour drive each way or I would have handed it back for them to sort.
And yes you’re correct, I did know it’s CO, it must be the heat......

Take it back to mini sport and get them to tune the silly FSE valve to make you run stoic at idle. MPi's need to run almost exactly 1.00 lambda at idle to pass and MOT emissions test.
Funnily enough I’ve never been happy with the FSE valve. I asked MiniSport to replace it after the conversion was complete as it makes an intermittent high pitched noise (prob about 10% of the time). They told me that they wouldn’t replace it as they all did that and there was nothing wrong with it. I’m tempted to get another and have it set on a rolling road and see what that does.

relocate the o2 sencor from the manifold to the y peace ,what i did to mine
