I've looked through loads of threads regarding tracking but can't find what I'm looking for. So I know the front requires 1-2mm toe out and the rear 1-2mm toe in but can't find anywhere how to measure this and where the measurement of 1-2mm is taken from/to. So how do I set the 1-2mm and what does the 1-2mm relate to?

This is how we did it on my mine.

Long rule along the side, then toe in/out from the line - I think the photo explains it better. Appologies for my great paint skills ;)

EDIT: We used the edge of the rim! its the only consistent part on the wheel. No rubber like I drew it, sorry for the miscommunication!!!

As long as it is not too windy,  the red line, which is at the height of the center line of the wheels, can be a taught piece of string.

Hi
There is a couple of videos on you tube, and lots of tutorials on internet sites it's a bit fiddly but simple enough. I did mine with string method using Calverst.com instructions they were clear and straightforward.

I use fishing line between 2 axle stands

I think Alex was wondering if for instance the measurements should be taken from the tyre sidewall or the wheel rim as these being different distances from the wheel centre will give different results.

Also does 1-2mm mean that the front of the wheel toes in or out 1-2mm compared to the centre of the wheel or compared to the rear of the wheel?

It’s done at the wheel rim, but then the value changes dependant on wheel size - that’s why proper old school gauges use degrees

Cheers Guys, Getting my string ready now . As Unburntfuelinthemorning say's really as you'll get different settings depending where you measure from.

From what I've read it should be 1-2mm inclusive so 0.5 -1mm per wheel.

Nice work but sorry, if you are running a line from back to front wheels and measuring from that, it's not right are the track is wider on the front compared to the Rears, so if that were referenced back to the centre line of the car, these lines splay out at the Front.

Cheer, yep haven't seen that before. I've just got the centre line of the car and will have to lengths of string either side the same distance from the centre line and then mark out the heights and diameters in your post.

Best £25 I've spent at A1 Tyres near Dover yesterday. Ok they couldn't balance my 10 inch Dunlop D1s as they wouldn't for the machine but they did my tracking a treat. It was miles out and it is drives like a dream. Get it done by someone. It's quicker.

Already had the caster, camber and toe set by a mini specialist... but it's very twitchy now.

Enjoy the "twitchy" while you can, before someone puts it right.

I’ve got one of the Trackace laser tools - love it. Soon paid for itself!
