Momo Prototipo

I prefer slightly larger steering wheels and at 350mm (13.75") this is the same size as the original in my JDM Cooper. It's specifically the Heritage version I've been looking at which is a little more in keeping with the Mini, basically the same as the standard Prototipo but pre-aged. I'm led to believe that the correct boss for the late model (Mpi) Minis is the MGF type which is available for the Momo as a collapsing version.
Price-wise they're similar to fitting a Motolita when the boss and horn push are added into the equation.
Stu.

There's a chap who posts on Instagram (may also be on here?) - Rollin_on_tens on Instagram. I noticed he has a Prototipo. You can see his pics by the link below:

As an aside, I also have the Momo MGF boss for my MPI in order to fit a traditional steering wheel. Only did a trial fit before stripping the car, but all was well.

As a side note, you might have issues MOT time and the airbag light may come on unless you add a resistor or similar.

I assume the removable boss fits between the standard MGF boss and the wheel therefore does it add much height/length to the column assembly?

I ran a prototipo in my Escort years back, nice wheel and not too common imo.

You're more likely to run into problems by adding the resistor (the presence of an SRS light that doesn't function and a steering wheel without an airbag). Advice from my tester was to remove the light altogether. I believe the wording in the guidance is something about "airbag obviously missing". It's not obviously missing in a mini (to most testers) if there's no trace of it ever having been there. Very much depends on your tester I expect. Mine is happy.

So on yours the MGF one (of that is right?). It does add a fair amount. There’s some photos on my pickup thread.

If you scroll down on that Instagram thread link you can see that his Prototipo is also on a removable boss. How different the boss for the original style steering wheels and the MGF style wheels is, I'm not sure - but some of those close up pics should help.
