Hi all,
Thinking of purchasing a mini for a bit of fun and to do classic rallies (HRCR etc). One I have seen is 1980 and has a Verto clutch retro fitted - think these were introduced in 1982 on the mini - and regs say Historic category 3 is for cars up to 31 December 1981. Anyone got any evidence of Verto originally fitted to minis pre '82?
Many thanks in advance

Not a hugely expensive thing to convert to more-vertical, alternatively run it as Cat.4

I believe You can still run the car with a verto clutch as long as you use and inertia starter. The early verto set ups used a different ring gear so that an inertia one can be used
Or as Graeme said convert it to the earlier type which in standard form is lighter and therefore a power advantage.
But if your looking at doing it then going for a lighter clutch set up will increase performance
That’s my plan by the end of the year ready for next years events

What you really need for historic rallying is a pre-Verto clutch with a lighter flywheel and a stronger clutch plate.
A lighter flywheel improves acceleration and is the same as having slightly higher torque. For rallying fit a lower final drive ratio. A 3.44:1 or 3.76:1 is ideal unless you are fitting a SC CR gearbox, in which case a 3.9:1 is best.
