Steering Rack

I replaced mine 12 months ago with a minispares one and it's packed up already. Pinion is knackered.
Not very impressed, it's done less than a 1000 miles. But has done 2 autotests and 2 autosolos so might have seen a bit more action than normal.

I have only ever used std racks, usually with slightly longer track rods than std though. Quick racks in theory are good on tarmac but very twitchy on dirt as the slightest defection of the road wheel makes the steering wheel try to rip out of your hand

I used an aftermarket, presumably recon rack for a couple of years in hillclimbs and sprints before it started to knock. I bought a genuine rack from minispares and 3 years or so later the gators are completely shot. The rack is still OK.
I have fitted a quick rack to my new project, when that finishes in a year or so, I'll see if its an improvement for some of the tight hairpins.

I am annoyed it lasted such a short time but haven't decided if its worth having a moan at minispares or not.

I’d imagine auto testing will put more of a beating on a rack than regular road driving but 4 events and 1000 road miles is too soon to be having issues.

Don't moan at them. Contact Simon (who is on here) and ask for advice.
That way, if there is a quality issue he will be able to advise and sort it out with their suppliers.
It used to be the case that a warranty did not cover any parts used in competition.

Swiftune does new internals for those looking to recon their existing rack. Their drumsticks aren't bad either.
