Thanks for the advice, but if I was to fit it would you do it first or after wiring etc ?
The sound deadening goes in before the wiring and fuse box, personally I dont fit them as it traps moisture and can be fiddly to work around. You might be able to make a few neat cuts so the deadening pad is removable without having to remove the wiring etc.

I would never put sound deadening in the engine compartment of a carb mini. Stick it inside the dash against the firewall.

again, as said above. they hold water!!! not what you want on a mini at all! just buy some sound deadening mat and fit to the inside(dehind dash) i did mine last night with 10mm stickyback close cell foam.

There are some under bonnet foam insulation pads around that are closed cell. I think the ones Smiffys Bits sell are.
