For quite some time now I've been planning on installing a 7 port head on a spare engine that I have.

I've alway had the idea of using 2 Weber 40 DCOE carbs, but after having two in my Datsun and having a bunch of throuble tunning them I'm thinking of opting for fuel injection in the Mini.

Has anyone done this? Is the extra price worth it? What fuel injection kits are out there? The only one I know is from Specialist Components...

Any opinion and suggestions are highly welcome!

Thanks in advance!

I have never used Fuel Injection on my Racer as the rules ban it. I use a Weber 48 (Single)  on a 5 port head with a long manifold.

I would guess Fuel injection would be much better, so much more "tunable", and should give more power and use less fuel, but I have no first hand experience using it on a  Mini

Fuel injection really transforms a car. That being said, webers are a lot cheaper and achieve the same MAX BHP.

I am going down the 7 Port head conversion route with throttle bodies.

Hopefully it will be pretty much fit and forget once the map is written for my setup. I love Weber’s having run them on my RS for many years but you do need to keep on top of them.

It’s like anything there are other factors to consider to get the most out of both systems. It’s not just a case of fitting them and they will work straight out of the box. Things like fuel delivery, ignition systems and the all important rolling road setup to optimise the output and running.

Use a single throttle body and a plenum chamber. Coupled with an ECU such as Megasquirt, you could run fuel injection for a few hundred pounds.

Just get a set of bike throttle bodies most of which come with injector bosses, get a manifold made up by a company like Danst, low pressure pump near the tank, swirl pot, regulator and high pressure pump up the front, fuel return line to the tank, ecu of your choice, Ford gen 2 coil, crank trigger etc and you're ready to go. No more carbs flooding and faffing about, starts all the time, whats not to like.

I have the SC 7 Port with their ECU and ITBs on the billet head. Fuelling was initially pulse rather than sequential. Rebuilt it with the carb crank trigger wheel setup for sequential fuelling. Very responsive. Selling it all in the near future if interested.
