Indeed, it was tight Stuart with my not exactly delicate hands, but managed to get to the upper hinges through the air vents, then lower peeling back the carpet!

Yeah I suppose with my design roots I’m very much a pure and simple person when it comes to the aesthetics, though I love how different every Midas (and mini) is to suit that person. I feel like I have a biased opinion of a mk1 tho, as I mean that’s been with me since day 1 aha.!

Hope your enjoying it so far, for such a small car it took weeks of prep!

Yes I'm rather fond of the old ERF dashboard so can fully understand you liking the dashboard. Now I am under the impression that there was no outside air feed to the heater on mk1's, on mk2's it has the big pipe similar to the Mini from the air intake on the front of the car and the now central vents from the airbox below the windscreen, where do the mk1 dash take their air from and the heater?

Dads mk1 has the fresh air feed to the mini air vents from ducts under the front end. Dad originally made them from steel, on the resto they crumbled.

My neighbour has a tig, so commissioned him to omake these, dad loves them, work just like the mini ones!

For the heater, dads fitted a square box section piece under the dash rail with loads of holes drills directed from the heater. Looks Heath Robinson, but driving the Midas back home in the wet it worked a treat!
I’ve learned so much Midas stuff from the build! If you want any photos Stuart just let me know! Bet you can’t wait to see how it looks now!
Stuart - when you said the fuel caps are really hard to find, managed to get a spare from the states.

Dad came to our mini meet this week, I’ve been searching for headlights as spares for ages, turns out he has a few in the spares department aha

I love the mk1,2,3 after then I think they lost their way. As a designer, I’d love to sketch a new design, my final year uni project was designing a kitcar for 2025 aha.

Anyway the fresh air scoops. My neighbour restore ww2 aircraft as a dayjob, and did these at dinner. He wouldn’t take a penny, a wedding gift to my dad. Paid him for the stainless, and said I’d help him with his land rover project aha.
