Hi,
I need some sealant for the half moon seal on the crank and was told to use RTV Grey Sealant. I also asked what gasket paste people use these days and was told again to use RTV grey.
The only stuff I can find is this on eBay is that the stuff?

Yes I have always used Hylomar Blue but lots of videos I have been looking at lately seem to be using a grey paste. Somerford Mini also recommended RTV.

I prefer to use Permatex Aviation No3 over any of the tacky/silicone sealers for the half moon

I use blue Hylomar on all paper seals and the loctite 5922 underneath, on it and on the ends of the half-moon seal, where they meet the paper gaskets.
Loctite 5922 Flange Sealant Product description
The Loctite 5922 Flange Sealant a slow drying, flexible setting paste that changes to a pliable, non-hardening film through solvent evaporation. It seals flanges, fittings, connections and flexible assemblies against leakage and increases the reliability of gasket seals.
It is suitable for valve cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets, threaded connections, cover plates and hose connections.

I have used black RTV on the 1/2-moon seal. It must never be shortened as the seal comes from the compression of the material, not from any sealant. The reason I use a small amount of RTV is to hold it in place whilst the engine is lowered onto the gearbox.

That's the stuff.
Use very sparingly.

People say easier to lower the g/box to the engine. That's the way I've done it.
