Hi,

 

I am looking at getting some gaz adjustable shocks for my 1996 mini cooper but wanted to get some feedback from others that have fitted them. I was initially looking at kyb gas-a-just but these are not much more money and adjustable.

 

Any feedback greatly appreciated!

I'd go for protec shocks, the Gaz are too hard and also have issues with the adjusters sticking.

Protec are worth the extra as theyll be fully rebuildable and have great customer service

Gaz also rebuild your shocks too, about £20 from memory.
I’ve ran them for years, can’t fault them. Protec are awesome though (and 5 miles down the road and great chaps too)

You are correct, I do prefer Protec as they're slightly softer and I believe have a better warranty spectrum.

I currently use gaz. had Bilsteins before...the yellow and blue ones. I can't say which is "better", as the Bilsteins did their thing no fuss. Still looking for the right setting for my Gaz ... can be kinda hard but I'm currently on the softest setting rear (or +1) and about 5-6 in front. IF both my Bilstein and gaz were set go the same setting, I doubt id feel a difference. same goes for protechs vs gaz as often discussed here. if you set both to the same stiffness, you probably won't feel any difference...my 2c

Seen too many Gaz issues on other cars.

I have KYB Gas-a-just dampers and recommend them as a very good fit and forget option.  They do a lovely job of taming the pitchiness of the rubber cones, nice handling and just right on speed bumps too.

Currently running Gaz adjustable and had no issues to date. Cannot comment if they are harder than other makes as I've not had anything else fitted to make an informed judgement.
