Hey Everyone,

I wanted to start a bit of a conversation amongst the sidedraft fans to get to know what set ups work for people out there, since its not as easy as some seem to think to find a rolling road to strap your car to in order to find the best calibration possible, and most of us end up by doing a bit of trial and error using the info available.

I run a Weber 45 DCOE matched to my 1330cc with a slightly hot cam calibrated to the following specifications:

Choke—36

Aux. Ventuti—4.5

Main Jet—165

Air Corrector Jet—180

Emulsion Tube—F2

Idle Jet—55 F8

At the moment I seem to run too rich and need to insist when cold starting (sometimes flodding my spark plugs).

I plan to put in a 38mm Choke and 50 F2 Idle Jet to test the full Vizard calibration as per his yellow bible.

But I also want to get to know more than just Vizard's book and a couple of sites.

What are your calibrations? What engine matched to? Any upsides or downsides to your calibration?

Shane you are using a poor inlet manifold as that will need different parts than if you were using a proper one.

what is the compression ratio?

who has done the head work?

I would suggest getting the cold start choke working. I have a 40mm Dellorto DHLA on my car and the difference is absolutely incredible with it. Just pull out the choke, and start the car - no pumping of the throttle to get it started and it will idle fine. Then you don't have to compromise the tune for cold start.

If you don't have the book "How to build and power tune Weber and Dellorto" by Des Hammil I would also recommend buying it. It gives a huge amount of info about choosing the right parts, and which parts to change to get the AFR right through the RPM range. The only major difference to your setup is they recommend a 45 F9 idle jet

I use an air fuel ratio gauge with the sensor in the exhaust pipe. It's the only way to get it anywhere near correct. I found that without using the gauge to check the mixtures the car drove perfectly well at super rich 10:1 ratios, and there was no way to tell by driving that it was so far off.

Thanks for your help!

In the end I found a magician who got the tune perfect. It actually now runs 34mm chokes!! The car runs like a dream so I am very pleased with it and look forward to many more miles.

I kicked it off with a 300 km roadtrip with the mini... There's nothing like a well running Mini.
