Where and how does the interior light mount on a Mk1? I know it mounts with two sheet metal screws and I have the wiring all sorted but I can't find where those screws should go....with the headliner already installed all I can find up there to mount it to is the roof itself?

Thanks for the help!

Hi Magneto,

If you feel around carefully over the roof lining, with a small blunt item in the light mounting area, you should be able to locate the 2 screw holes.

I had to do this on my mk3 and used part of a match stick (not the end you light!) to gently push against the roof lining. If the match stick is rounded off this will help prevent marking the lining.

Once you have located one hole you can insert one screw, then with reference to the above photo, you should be able to work out where the other hole is.

Cheers, Steve.

Hopefully your Mk1 is not a pre Oct 62, in which case it will not have the mounting plate in the center. Below are pictures of a headliner post Oct ‘62 with mounting plate overlaid on a pre 62 frame with no mount for the center dome light.

As it turns out, this car had exactly that style of mounting, in the center of the bow in the middle of the headliner....I carefully pulled down on the rear most bow of the front section of the headliner and got a bright flashlight up in there and could see the plate and with the help of a small mirror found the two screw holes. I poked them thru with a small pick and then mounted the light. Job done. Thanks for all the replies!

This car is a '66 Cooper S, probably should have noted that in my first post.....sorry.
