I recently noticed that my biting point was really low down and the clutch wasn't fully disengaging when trying to change gear. I thought I should bleed the clutch lines so I bought some dot 4, replaced the fluid in the master cylinder and bled the lines. Every time I bled, air was still getting into the pipes even when I had tightened all the points. I've got a 1984 Mini Mayfair, if that helps at all - running a verto clutch system. I'm thinking of replacing the whole hydraulic system with one braided line, a new slave and master cylinder and then redoing it again. Is this the best option or should I try something else first?

Sounds like you are letting the fluid get too low when bleeding.

I have had this happen with both a bad slave cylinder and a bad master on two different cars. If yours have never been changed, I agree with your plan - it's time....

UPDATE: I used a funnel and filled it up so that the m/c was always full when I pumped the clutch. All sorted now, changing gears run A LOT smoother now. With the amount of air in the system at the start and how dirty all the fluid was, I doubt it's been cared for by the previous owners. So I'll replace the whole hydraulic system at some point in the near future, but I'll keep on top of the fluid level for now. Cheers

What many people don’t get is that when the can is half full it is actually empty as that is where the port is.
