If the pressure plate is ok, yes. I recall they were available just as components when they were first introduced. Then they started supplying them as complete balanced assemblies for warranty replacements.

You'd hope by '97 they'd have got to grips with the issue. Yours should be a 190mm Valeo & different to the original.

Sorry Ethel was that yes to having it balanced or no need if using the original pressure plate ?

It shouldn't need balancing if you take care to maintain the alignment. Use a marker pen to put on some guide marks before you start unbolting. Just visually inspect the pressure plate for wear, scoring etc - if the clutch is still holding fine it should be ok. They don't normally get any attention until they start slipping and it's that  which causes the damage.

...Just checked the Rover workshop manual and it does still say to renew the pressure plate and flywheel as an assembly - so you should get it all balanced if you replace the plate.

I’ve had a reply from the seller of my clutch kit this morning and he’s said the kit is Balanced from the factory, it’s a
Borg and Beck kit, has anyone heard of this before ?
Thanks

It would have to include the flywheel to do the job properly

That’s what I thought to be honest thank you, I’m just going to change the clutch plate itself and the release bearing to be safe, bit of a waste but I’m sure I can sell the pressure plate
Thanks again

Got the clutch now and just reading post on removing the flywheel, people are saying about this washer behind the clutch dropping and stopping it coming off ? I don’t want to start a big post about this again but how do you stop it jamming the clutch on ?
Thanks

It sits in the grooves behind the taper, parrallel to the slot in the end, so when you've got the key plate off just turn the slot to horizontal: safest in case some muppet put the C washer in upside down.1777c1805f170a6b5e886cd673e9845ce0ac32d2

Got my new gasket today for the timing cover, it’s an updated one apparently which has a blue sealing strip around it in the middle Minispares GUG705550GM
Would you also stick a bead of gasket paste around it too maybe on both sides of the gasket ???
Thank you ?

I’m thinking maybe this stuff if it’s suitable I’ll use it on the water pump gasket and timing cover if required ?
LOCTITE SI 5980 Flange Sealant (Halfords)

How come there is 2 torque settings for the timing cover ?
I’m only doing the actual cover itself so the ones round the outside
Sorry for all questions ???

You do have a Haynes manual? Please read it. This is all coved in there. There are too many muppets out there that don’t actually.

i will say that on a Verto set up if you do separate the pressure plate and flywheel there should not be a problem as there is not the recess to catch the C washer.  BUT I have not looked at a Verto set up to confirm this. I just did not think to when I changed over my first Verto assy.

Thanks I appreciate you’re response
