It`s stainless steel and the glass is held by a rubber strip. Personally I refit the glass with black Sikaflex and trim off the excess when dry.

A word of caution IF the SPI window is the same as the MPI window then DO NOT try replacing the glass seal, .... original seals are unavailable, every parts supplier will try & sell you 47H9535M & you will end up bending the frame trying to get it too fit as the MPI glass is fractionally thicker than the earlier windows.
If you need to remove the frame to fit a replacement hinge or catch then absx2 has given you the best advice....

I certainly couldn't get the new seal to fit. It just seemed to grip
The original Quarter Light Glass Seal was ALA5581, I'm fairly sure 47H9535M is thicker.
Some people have been lucky & got away with fitting 47H9535M with the earlier glass but it's definitely a no-go on MPI windows (& poss SPI -IF they are the same as the MPI).
I did find a source for a square profile EPD seal which should fit the MPI windows but that part of the project got shelved untill the shell is rust free (we can all dream).
