I have a black and white picture of a poor guy, driving a Cooper, being issued a citation on what looks to be the streets of London. I’m trying to place the year that this happened. Based on the cars in the background, could be ā€˜63 or ā€˜64. The plate on the rear of the Jaguar cop car is SUU 472F. Any way to narrow this to a year??

The registration suffix on the Jag says the car was registered between August '67 to July '68.

I've got a feeling the the jaguar reg is familiar and may have been in some promotional pictures for the MK2 jag sales drive to the police.

I presume you mean this photo?

I think I might be on the slip road next to the Hyde Park Corner underpass, West bound, you can just see the white building in the background, second photo shows this building more clearly, especially as second photo is Autumn/Winter. Obviously the road furniture has changed.

London Metropolitan Police white Jaguar S-type....   probably J Division based at Rigg Approach District Garage in 1968-70.

Met S-Type 'traffic cars' were fitted with a low ratio diff -good for acceleration but ran out of puff at 70mph.

A few pictures of London SUU registered Met white S-Types on the internet -SUU 467F, SUU 472F,  SUU 486F, SUU 487F (SUU 486F was restored a few years ago).

I prefer this picture of F reg police vehicles:

Could be anytime after 68 unless anyone knows how long the police use new cars for. My guess is it's 69
