I'm rebuilding a 65 Cooper S and before I paint want to take the chrome window

trim off the doors. Have no idea how to do that safely so I can reinstall later.

Any help would be appreciated

Starting at the top of the frame use the thin wide blade to pop the press studs off and then work down both sides but leave the lower sections, then slide the trim upwards to remove.

The bottom two clips if original slide into the trim, the others work the same as press studs and pop away.

Look in the felt channel for small screws. I think there are 4. Then hold the glass in front of each other, pull the channel towards the inside of the car and it should come away.

If you mean the outer lower trim it just lifts off after removing the upper surround. Clips are not very strong so easy to lift

After doing any restoration work it is a good idea to delete the 'buttons' onto which the door window surround chrome trim is fitted. Tiger-Seal is ideal for fixing the trim. Just apply the Tiger-Seal into the inside of the chrome trim, place it against the door and secure it temporarily with tie-wraps. leave for 24 hours, remove the tie-wraps and trim off any excess adhesive with a plastic knife.

There will then never be any rust under the trim.

If it has the original fixings there are two different types.

Along the top edge and down the angled part of the front - except the bottom one - they are a cup type fixing which the trim pops over. Pop the trim off these first.

The lower front and vertical rear fixings are like a raised washer and the trim should be slid straight upwards over these.
