Ball Joint Shims

For those of you who have installed numerous sets of ball joints does it matter how many shims you might have to use? Is 4 to many? 4 seems just right on one of mine regardless of the many combinations i tried. My Mini is a 1990 998cc 4 speed, disc brakes,  thanks everyone.

Well done for getting them right. Their is no 'correct' number, as the shims come in different thicknesses, and there seems a wide variation in ball joint build as well. Keep as many spare shims as you can , as you are more than likely to need additional. Cheers

it all depends on what thickness you need to make up and what shims you have.

 

you use the ones you need to use.

With new ball joints I used to lap them in with valve grindig paste first. Made shiming easier.
