Slow To React Indicators

I've tried to do a search but I couldn't find an answer. Whenever I turn on either my indicators or hazards it takes the car a few seconds to react and start any flashing. It's not so much of an issue with the hazards but it's rather annoying when using indicators. Any suggestions on what may be causing this?
Thanks for any help you can give. It's a 83 mayfair.

Yes. It's an original bi-metallic strip type of flasher unit. It takes a second for the current to heat the strip enough for it to deflect and start the flashing. As they age the delay tends to increase and the flashing rate decreases.
The types now available although they look the same I think may be electronic as they work instantly and silently.
Now I like the noisy operation of the originals as the sound resonates through the bulkhead so you don't only have the light to tell you they're working.
I considered it an art to time moving the indicator switch just right so they flashed exactly when you wanted them to, it makes you think ahead.
Unfortunately I can't seem to find new ones that work like the old ones did anymore.

this type should do the job - just needs an extra earth connection

This is the one I currently have from Minispares. It's a direct replacement, is silent in operation and responds instantly.

I was having issues with my old bimetal flasher unit in my '91, randomly making the indicators flash very quickly or even not at all - have now replaced it with this direct replacement (only has two pins so no extra wiring needed) https://www.amazon.c...1?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and the indicators are now working perfectly.. only thing as others have mentioned is it won't make any sort of noise so you've only got the lights to remind you if you've left the indicator on!

There are flasher relays designed for motorbikes, which have a buzzer to help remind you that the indicators are still on!
