95-96 Spi Indicator Issue

Best Answer rossul.burn , 04 March 2020 - 09:53 PM

So I traced the cable back to the ignition barrel and realised it was getting to power when key was in and turned.

I tried a spare barrel I had and worked fine. Everything is working as it should be. Also this maybe why the car has been hit and miss with starting as the ECU and fuel pump relay is on the same wiringb Go to the full post

I have an issue with my indicators on my late SPI. Hazards work, relay for the hazards under the steering wheel clicks on and off and the dash board lights come on.

However I have got no indicators, the fuse has been replaced so shouldnt be that.

The strange thing is, the relay in the engine bay just below scuttle above ECU which is the indicators is clicking on randomly, as in when I connect the battery back up it is firing it up, the speed is correct for the indicators but the lights dont come on. Could it be a bad relay or possibly a poor earth? Or could it be something else?

I have a spare relay, hazard switch and stalk which I can swap over. I will keep updating this when I check it out as its always good for people to search and get answers but if anyone else has any ideas please let me know

Thanks

Ross

So I've check the flasher, relay, stalk and also the hazard switch it isn't any of these.

If I take a cable with known 12v from starter and put it in pin 87 I can get the indicators to come on but not flashing.

What can I do next?

Okay so I can jump 87 to 30 and it works but once I put a relay in it stops? I've tried multiple relays that I know work?

I've just put a relay on where I have took the case off and manual activated it and it works

What could cause it not to work by itself?

Check the fuses and check for voltages. A power probe comes in handy here.

According to this it is 2 and 10 I should be looking at

1 15 Heated rear window
2 15 Reversing lights, stop lights, headlight dim/dip*,direction indicaton relay
3 15 Auxiliary cooling fan
4 15 Headlight dim/dip*
5 15 Heater blower motor, sunroof motor*
6 15 Wipers/ washers
7 20 Headlight flasher, horn, anti-theft alarm*
8 10 Tachometer*, engine management ECU*, fuel pump relay*, anti-theft alarm* If Fitted
9 10 Radio/cassette, cooling fan relay, automatic gear selector light* If Fitted
10 10 Radio memory*, interior light, direction indicators, hazard flasher, theft alarm LED* brake test
11 10 Fuel pump* Inj Cars
12 10 Starter signal
13 10 Left-hand, side and tail lights
14 10 Right-hand, side and tail lights, instrument illumination
15 10 Left-hand headlight main beam
16 10 Right-hand headlight main beam, main beam warning light
17 10 Left-hand headlight dip beam
18 10 Right-hand headlight dip beam
19 20 Not used
20 15 Not used
21 10 Not used
22 20 Not used
23 Not used
24 10 Rear fog light

I have replaced 2 and 10, sprayed electrical contact cleaner in them and nothing but if I manually make contact within the relay they work but that's it. Multimeter showing to power to green but the other items to those fuses are working

So jumping power from fuse 3 to the green cable to fuse 2 works. So now need to find out why that isn't getting power

Hi,

Similar problem with a 1995 spi, indicators not working but hazards are. However my problem is clearly some short circuit as I got a blown fuse. But the fuse list posted above can't be right as then the hazard flasher wouldn't work with a blown fuse, would it?

Would if the hazard circuit isn't fused .. ;) I'd have to look at a Mini wiring diagram though to check ..

Davof: I see two fuses:

See the diagram at:  http://www.theminifo...ttach_id=193839

hazards-diagram-92-96.JPG

Indicators being "fed" by Fuse 1-2 (main fusebox 35A), green wire leading towards Indicator relay) being operated bij de indicator stalk (wire Light Green with brown trace)
Hazards being fed by Line Fuse 1 (15A), Purple wire wih orange trace running to the harzards warning unit/relay - being operatied by the hazards switch (Light green wire with pink trace.

So if LF1 is ok, the hazards relay can supply power to all indicator lights, but is F1-2 is not OK / the green wire is interupted to the direction indicator relay / the indicator relay is faulty or has now ground ) the indicators would not work while the hazards would..

Ok thanks, I believe this one is different to the wire diagram I had.
