So I'm about to bite the bullet and sort out a clutch issue that happened last summer but I was so fed up I just pushed the car in the garage. I was on my way back after a 100 mile run out , car had been running fine for months no issues at all. I approached a tight right hand bend and depressed the clutch. The pedal felt solid, so much so I had to force it down and I struggled to disengage the gear but just about managed too. I rolled into a layby. Depressed clutch which went to the floor but I could not get a gear. There's no fluid loss, there's movement at the clutch arm and the adjustment is fine but still can't get a gear. Any ideas where to start?

Verto or Pre-Verto?

It sounds like you'll have to get the wok off to investigate, but you could remove the slave cylinder (keep the hose attached) so you can manually return the piston and confirm it's not the hydraulics.

I had the same problem many years ago. It turned out to be the clutch arm... the ball that slots into the clutch plunger had broken up and so whilst everything appeared to be properly adjusted, the arm wasn’t pushing the plunger in far enough to disengage the clutch.

I was happy as I didn’t have to take anything apart (other than knock out the clutch arm lower clevis pin) and replaced the arm. Maybe this is your problem too.

I had the exact same problem . The ball on the bottom of the clutch arm had broken off, everything looked to be working properly as well. A new clutch arm and happy days everything working again.

If the ball of the clutch arm broke off then usually the plunger hole has worn too. While down there with the wok off then replace arm, both pivot pins, plunger and thrust bearing.

Should have said , it's pre verto. Would you get the initial solid pedal if it were the clutch arm?

When I had my problem it was the earlier pre verto long clutch arm (same as yours). It was still trying to activate the clutch so still felt like it should be working.

At least if you knock the lower clevis pin out and remove the arm you will know quickly if this is your problem.

So I've taken the clutch off. No apparent problems, flywheel came off with a bit of persuasion but no problems, diaphragm is all ok. Primary gear is spinning freely on the crankshaft. Clutch plate was a little bit sticky on the splines but not stuck. Think I'm going to put it all back together, renew the release bearing, arm and plunger etc to take up the wear and see how we get on
