Hi everyone! I have a 1989 mini city 1000 that I have been working on over the past year. I have it running now but I can’t get it to stop smoking, I have replaced the head gasket, and valve stem oil seals and no joy? I was wondering if any one could help me work out what is causing it? I’ll try and post a video if I can.

Hi,

How many miles has the engine covered and what did the bores look like once the head was removed?

As you've changed the valve stem oil seals. it could be worn bores and/or rings. Does it smoke more under acceleration and is the smoke blue?

Cheers, Steve.

Its most likely going to be the rings.

Is it blue or white smoke?  If you have a servo then white smoke could be hydraulic fluid burning off because of seal failure.  I recently had white smoke pouring out of my MGB and it was eventually tracked down to a minute hole in #4 exhaust port.  Run the engine and then take the plugs out and check to see any are wet with water.  Also turn the engine over with all the plugs out to see if water is sprayed out of one or more cylinders.
