So I changed the ht leads on my mini today, possibly the wrong way wrong as was misfiring then cutting out. I then connected them all the right way. No car won’t turn over. The batter is working fine, no previous issues with starter motor. Checked immobiliser as well.

Is there a possibility this could be the kill switch, how do I know if it’s engaged! It feels spongey to the touch

Get cylinder 1 to top dead centre with #1 valves on the rock.

Remove the dizzy cap and put #1 lead where the rotor arm is pointing...

I’m pretty sure I have the leads in the correct order as such. Don’t suppose you have a diagram?

Is there anyway that if they have been connected incorrectly they would short something?

Have you got 5M of insulated wire ?

If yes, fix one end to the non earth side of the battery, and with the car out of gear, touch the other to the terminal on the solenoid with the red and white wire.

This bypasses alarms etc: so the solenoid will click and the starter should rotate.  If the starter does not rotate, power probably isn't  getting past the kill switch.

Just be careful as its possible the distributor drive wasn't fitted in the right place.

As above the best way to check is to find TDC on number 1 when the valves are closed and start from there.

The firing order is more conventionally refered to as 1342 anti-clock wise but its the same as 1243 clockwise, its just the distributor spins anticlockwise so 1342 is the firing order.

Not turning over so has nothing to do with distributor leads. Check battery connections and main lead to starter motor. On the other hand even though the battery might show good voltage and the lights go on it could still be dud.

Have the battery load tested.
