Hi,

 

Please can someone put me out of my misery and tell me how you're supposed to remove these electrical connector blocks, for example the green type

found on the Intake Air Temp sensor?  They seem to have a wire and one small tab, but with no amount of prodding/pulling have I been able to get the connector off.

I am trying to check it as my MPi is running a bit rich.  Upon replacing the plugs today, the old ones were quite heavily carboned up.  I don't know the history of when they were

last replaced though (One of them was a different type!)

I take the wire spring clip fully off first by gently levering it up with a flat screwdriver. Got to keep hold of it so it doesn't ping off across the garage. Then the plug just comes out. Probably not the correct way but works for me.

If it's the type I'm thinking of.

If you press firmly down on the metal spring clip the connector should then pull off.

It’s this nasty thing! Have tried releasing the clip, just can’t seem to get it.

I notice the same connector appears on the oil temp sensor.

Sometimes you have to push the socket in fully, then press the clip in, then pull.
If that fails, take the metal cip out the body. It just pullout on one side and then should be free.

Reopening an old thread, but 2 of mine have pinged off across the garage not to be seen again for another couple of years when they will reappear in a daft place and I don't need them..

Question. Anyone know where you can buy these tedious wire clips? ty.

Don't  know if you can get them  on their own but I think they're "Junior timer" plugs & you should be able to pinch them off many cars.

 

Pressing the metal bar towards the plug is supposed to splay out the ends that lock it on to the sensor so the plug can be pulled off..

Thanks Ethel. That link / pictures and your description is interesting.. I have never, ever been able to press the wire so the ears open and the connector comes off - always had to use a pic.

From the pics on the aliexpress product listing, it looks like the wire should be bowed upwards, so there is some spring to push down to open the ears. None of mine are bowed like that. I'm going to try and put such a bend in mine, see how it works - as there has to be a better way than picking the darn thing off completely!

Actually, ive just brought one in from the garage and mine arent the same - the wire "ears" wrap around tighly under the connector - they dont spring outwards like the pics from ali show - different connector btl.

Is it a different sensor though???

 

I might have seen something similar but I can't  think where - the wire only just goes round the corners onto the 4th side. If I'm thinking of the right thing it was also dull, probably galvanised.

 

 

...while I was typing - yes that's the thing. AMP is the same manufacturer. I've a feeling they might be interchangeable.

For my spi, I have the same kind of connector / wire goes right round it (as per pics) for the coolant temp sensor under the intake manifold (black), air temp sensor (green) in the air filter, and at least one other I dont recall which one atm.   I do know they are a fight to get off every single darn time.

Having done a load more research, it seems this connector is also called 2 Pin MINI TIMER, METRI-PACK 150 Series connector as well as the one you posted 2 Pin/Way EV1 Junior Power Timer (JPT).

Im thinking they changed the connector spring release bit since our cars were wired, as they are such a pita to get off.  The spring push connector bit looks much easier to remove now.   Comparing my pic with the ali pic for the JPT, they look very similar.  For a couple of quid I'll buy a couple and report back.

The TPS throttle position sensor has the same wire round it, same type of connector but its a 3 pin.  More pics for reference in future.

Might just be a newer version. As the male half is built in to a lot of sensors it would make sense to make them compatible.

 

They're all over loads of cars, so you may be able to find one to try plugging the sensor into without bothering China. Or just cross reference some sensor part numbers then  try google image searching.

And here is the aliepxress one - the pin holes are a different shape however..  We will see.
