A hairdryer to warm and soften the trim as you are fitting it helps. Just take your time and don't rush it.

I've heard that does the trick, but unfortunately I don't have access to a plug socket where I work on the car (shared parking for a block of flats)  :errr: with everything going on at the moment though, one thing I do have on my side is plenty of time!

A bucket of hot water and doing it in this sunshine will give you a pretty good shot at it.

You could also look into a 12v Camping Hairdryer.

Love the look without the arches by the way.

The '90's cars look no different from any other Minis unless they have the horrible 13" wheels fitted with the very wide arch extensions. I saw a 1998 Sportpack on the road recently and thought how dated the extensions made the car look. Again, that is just a personal perception and I realise that some do like them like that.
My 1990 rally car which now has no arch extensions looks fine. I don't like arch extensions for three reasons. The first is aesthetic as I feel the ones without extensions look a cleaner and crisper design, and the second is the fact that when I have rallied in Minis with extensions they sooner or later break off or get torn off. The third is that the propensity to rust is increased even more when holes are drilled in the wings for the extension fixing screws, although this can be reduced by using stainless steel socket head screws into Riv-Nuts, with lots of Waxoyl on the inside of the wings.

Oh I forgot about this forum..

80’s,90’s are completely different in their styling, colour themes.

This car looks pure 88-91. Simples.

It’s my opinion. I forgot how someone can say my opinion is wrong.

Oh and by the way, I have those horrible sportspacks arches and 10inch wheels.

I’m a designer with an Automotive design first. Please tell
me how wrong I am, I’ll get the popcorn.

Well that was an aggressive response to someone’s opinion...

Maybe better off forgetting the forum again?

Aggressive? Nah, just can't stand keyboard warriors whos' opinion is gospel and think their right above anyone else.

Irony is I have a Nordic Blue Mini in my collection.

Just finished fitting the chrome trim strips on either side... bit of a b*****d to fit but got the job done with a couple of blisters to show for it!

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with how it's turned out. Thinking that a pair of Downton chromed mirrors and a shiny new grille might be next on the agenda, but we'll see!

Just thought I'd update this with a neat little solution I found for filling in the holes left over from removing the old arches... might be handy for someone else looking to do something similar :)

Finding some reasonably priced grommets to fit the small holes was proving quite tricky, so eventually I thought I'd try something a bit more "alternative" - some ear plugs designed for swimmers:

I paid about a fiver for a bunch of these from Amazon, and after some trimming they actually worked a treat!

Not only has it tidied up the overall look of the car for minimal effort and money, the plugs should do pretty well at keeping out any water from the boot via the rear holes, they were designed for keeping water out of swimmers' ears after all!

They look fine, don't they.

Anything to reduce the rusting is good.

Nordic blue is a funny old colour isn't

I repainted a neon recently and was really surprised at how much I liked the colour when I had previously not taken much notice as it seemed uninteresting to me.

Out of the booth and into the sun it looked like it had a almost golden green look to it, in other lights it just looks grey and then another time silver.

when I painted some other parts for it After, I was concerned at how blue the parts looked but upon fitting them found them perfect..

Anyway, going a bit off topic there. The archless look is really good and well done for getting the chrome trim on, they can be tricky!

Cheers

Ben

Brilliant!! I’m in the same dilemma, but didn’t want to have to repaint the guards! This will work a treat! I’m guessing you pushed the grommets through from the inside of the guard?

I actually pushed them through from the outside with the help of a very small screwdriver, I'm not sure if you'd be able to get access to all the holes from behind but it might work for some of them :)
