Happy Eater everyone!

I’ve been trying to fit a new distributor with electronic ignition to my A+ mini. Attempt #1, car was running well, but once I got the light out to set the timing, it wasn’t possible as the vac advance was hitting the oil pipe. I then tried reinstalling the original distributor (I marked off positions of the body and rotor arm prior to disassembly) and couldn’t get the car to start. Spent another day messing with the new distributor, got it started again, but now as soon as I try to drive the car and let off the clutch, the motor will die. What am I missing here??

Try going back to the basics.

Top dead center on the engine as verified by the timing mark on the harmonic balancer as well as the marks on the flywheel.  Then, rotate the engine to the correct timing for your engine, for example, 10 degrees BTDC. The rotor should then point to approx 1 o'clock position for #1 spark plug.  If not, you may have to re-position the distributor drive spindle.
