Is the primary gear thrust washer on the right way round?

Yep, taper side in. If it wasn’t I’m pretty sure you can’t measure the end float it as the C washer won’t seat correctly.

Ok, trying to eliminate stuff. What did you lube the primary gear with when re-installing?

Had a similar problem with the clutch after the engine install in my van. Clutch disengagement with the pedal right on the floor once I’d put everything together. Took everything apart several times to recheck and in the end. In complete frustration ended up buying everything new - clutch plate, thrust bearing, orange diaphragm, HD arm, clevis pins, slave cylinder and master cylinder. I think I had a combination of worn arm pin and a leaking master cylinder which didn’t leak fluid but wouldn’t hold pressure. It’s fine now but still have some clutch judder which I think is the primary gear which was on top limit of tolerance. If funds can spare then I’d definitely change the main arm and the thrust bearing pin first.

All ordered up now. It will be a week or so until everything arrives so will report back then.
