Hi, I've just fitted a new non gen rear subby (I know alot will say thats the first mistake  ). The fit isn't too bad apart from one of the trunion bushes. I Know its debated what way around they should be fitted, I've chosen this was because its what I've seen in the rover manual and it is also how my car originally was. One of the trunions seems to sit to far away from the frame. Basically I think the frame is too narrow. The pin is tightened onto its shoulder and the holes in the heel board are basically pulling the trunion away.

The bush is pushed onto the subframe and its the little sqaure plate making the bush sit not flat on the frame. Is this soemthing I'm just gonna have to live with as a result of non gen frames being the wrogn size? I am reluctant to change the way the bush is as I feel this will make the gap look even worse? The bush is sitting against both surfaces fully.

I did have this issue on an old frame with rubber bushes but these being bright orange poly it's alot more obvious.

I've had all the mounts loose to try and shift the frame about but this is the best it'll go.

Thanks

That is the correct way. It ain’t debatable. Just the wrong choice of bush material.

I wondered if someone would mention that  I've had it on rubber bushes for a few years, heard mixed reviews on polys so for the cost just wanted to give them a go since its not a big job to swap to rubber if I want to. Is this poor fit due to the polys not conformation to the shape of the frame then do you reckon?

Have you fitted both bushes to that trunion? It looks like you've only got one, you should have one going in from either side of the trunion.

I think that's only the case with the earlier type. If I understand correctly the late type are only 1 piece

You're right, I didn't realise that, I've only ever done the two piece early type.

I've been out and hand another look, I think it is just a case of the frame being too narrow, had another set of bushes on the shelf and it's the same story.

Single bush appears it should be fitted from the other side according to this.

Yeah that seems to differ depending where you look. If I use a big lever i can actually move the front of the frame side to side on the car with it all bolted up which to me confirms its too narrow. Im gonna make up some spacers/ thick washers to fill the gap evenly on both sides. Ill make them round aswell so the bush will sit nicer on them

Wrong. That is not from a manual just a parts list.

Out of interest, if you don't have the correct 2 pin tool for the pivot bolt, I adapted one from an old grinder disc removal tool - just needed the lugs grinding down a little to fit the holes - works a treat.
