Sorry but I have spi woes
I have trolled all the spi issues on the forum but still can not find an answer .
My issue is , I have a 96 spi and it wont start i have checked all wires I have downloaded all wiring diagrams and cross referenced .. my issue is no negative at coil .
I have + volts when I turn key to ignition on br/pk testing across that and ground .
I dont have any negative or ground on either white and blacks one goes to the ecu and other goes to alarm box ... no breaks in cable ....
My thought is faulty ecu ...
Alarm is switching off
Anyone any ideas

I assume the engine is cranking over so that rules out alarm/immobilizer.
The negitive for the coil comes from the ECU when the crank sensor tells it to so I would check the wiring at the sensor.
Has there been any work done on the car since it last ran?

Also just to add the white and black that goes through the bulk head I've traced and found that it just goes to a 3 cabled plug and doesnt plug into anything ??? .. I haven't unplugged anything from in there ??

Hey yes engine has been out for around a year no wiring changes . As I have found out flywheel sensor also controls the injection ?? I have injector spraying , engine turning but no negative pulse at the coil i have changed coil as had a spare ... my issue is the no negative and what could be stopping me getting the negative on the white black .

It should go to the tachometer. I would inspect the ECU connection, pin 25, where the white/black wire ends. Run a continuity test on pin 25 of the connector, not the ECU, to the coil end looking for a wire break, should be 0 Ohms. Then with both end of white/black wire disconnected (ECU and coil) check continuity from the wire to ground for shorts, should be infinity.

Hey thanks for reply , checked for continuity on white/bk from ecu plug to coil and wire is fine .... tried a different route with testing for negative pulse on turnover rather than bulb test I attached my tester which has a light on when it gets continuity and tested across wh/bk coming from ecu and across ground off block and get a faint flash ... got a new coil last week ... tested ohms on coil nothing across + - tested across + and output and getting around 7.ohms ... recon after all this I may have a faulty coil ... if not also managed to get hold of a 2nd hand ecu which will be here by end of week ... will keep posted thanks again for replying.
good luck !

After all checks it was a faulty ecu ...
Replacement turned up plugged it in and first turn of key it started .
Happy days
Thanks everyone for your input very much appreciated.
